Giving wine is always a bit of a gamble. You worry about getting it wrong, about giving a bottle that will end up at the back of a cupboard, or not knowing what to say as you hand it over. A gift box of three wines solves most of the problem: three bottles means three styles, three occasions to open them, and a story to tell. We have put together four gift boxes at the estate, each designed for a different kind of person. Here is how to choose the right one, and our ideas for people who already have everything.
The essentials in 30 seconds
- For someone discovering Alsace: the Discovery gift box, with Riesling, Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer.
- For your Christmas hosts: the Festive meal gift box, a crémant, a red and a sweet wine for the whole meal.
- For lovers of fruity wines: the Gourmet gift box, Muscat, Gewurztraminer and Pinot Noir.
- For a Riesling enthusiast: the Scherwiller Riesling gift box, three terroirs, three Rieslings.
- In every gift box: a free waiter’s corkscrew. You can have it delivered straight to the person’s door.
Why a gift box rather than a single bottle?
A single bottle is a wine. Three bottles chosen together are a discovery. The person who receives the gift box can compare, taste the wines side by side, and keep one for another occasion. And for you, it is the assurance that at least one of the three will please.
Our gift boxes bring together wines from our vineyard in Scherwiller, certified High Environmental Value (HVE), in 75 cl bottles, AOC Alsace. Each gift box costs a little less than the three bottles bought separately, and a waiter’s corkscrew is tucked inside: handy for the person who receives it, and for you if you give it on arriving at a dinner.
The Discovery gift box: for someone who does not know Alsace (yet)
It is the easiest gift box to give, and the best introduction to Alsace wines. It brings together the region’s three great white grape varieties, side by side:
- Riesling: dry, very lemony, with hints of pepper and sage. The straightest of the three.
- Pinot Gris: round and structured, with pear, peach and smoky notes.
- Gewurztraminer: the most expressive, with exotic fruit, spices and rose.
Who is it for? A colleague, a neighbour, in-laws who like wine without being experts. Three very different styles are a guarantee that everyone will find a favourite.
A little extra: these three wines are best tasted in order, from the Riesling to the Gewurztraminer, from the driest to the most aromatic. And if the person wants to go further, our article Riesling or Pinot Gris: how to choose? explains the differences.

The Festive meal gift box: for your hosts
Invited to a Christmas dinner and do not want to arrive empty-handed? This gift box is a menu in three acts:
- Crémant Extra-Brut, for the aperitif: brioche, white flowers and toasty notes.
- Rittersberg Pinot Noir, for the main course: black fruit, blackcurrant and blackberry, silky tannins, aged in 400 and 600 litre casks.
- Légende d’Automne, with foie gras or dessert: our sweet Pinot Gris in the blue bottle, with smoky notes, hazelnut and violet.
Who is it for? Your Christmas hosts, parents who organise the family meal, a couple who love entertaining. It is our most festive gift box, and the one that best tells the story of an Alsace meal, from the first glass to the last. We describe this menu in detail in our Christmas wine guide.
The Gourmet gift box: for lovers of fruity wines
Some people find wines “too dry” or “too tannic”. This gift box is for them. Three still wines, fruity and generous:
- Muscat: dry and light, with that crisp grape flavour you rarely find in a wine.
- Gewurztraminer Cuvée Particulière: a sweet wine from selected plots, with lychee, exotic spices and a velvety palate.
- Pinot Noir: a light red with cherry and red berries, without heavy tannins.
Who is it for? People who love generous flavours, the curious who enjoy aromatic wines, those who would rather have a glass as an aperitif than at the table. From aperitif to cheese, there is enough for a whole meal: the Muscat with appetisers, the Pinot Noir with poultry, the Gewurztraminer with Munster.
The Scherwiller Riesling gift box: for the connoisseur
Scherwiller is one of the communal appellations of Alsace reserved for Riesling. This gift box lets you taste, side by side, three Rieslings from our village, three terroirs and three vine ages:
- Riesling Scherwiller: 25 to 35 year old vines on alluvial soils, citrus and yellow fruit, lemony finish.
- Rittersberg Riesling: granite at the foot of Ortenbourg Castle, acacia blossom, mineral notes, saline finish.
- Riesling Vieilles Vignes: vines over 50 years old, a full medium-dry wine with citrus, pepper and sage.
Who is it for? The friend who talks about “minerality” and “terroir”, the enthusiast who likes to compare, or someone who loves oysters. For the latter, our oyster and seafood pairings will give them ideas.

The winemaker’s tip
Giving wine also means making people want to open it. When you hand over the gift box, suggest a dish for each bottle: the Riesling with seafood, the Pinot Gris with foie gras, the Gewurztraminer with Munster. A bottle that already has its meal is much less likely to be forgotten at the back of a cupboard.
For a wine lover who already has everything
For a true enthusiast, a rare bottle sometimes makes more of an impression than a gift box. Three ideas from our cellar:
- Lerchenbuehl: our most singular wine. An old vineyard in Scherwiller, planted with several grape varieties together, mainly Pinot Blanc, Riesling and Sylvaner. The rows are narrow, all the work is done by hand, and the wine is aged in a 600 litre barrel. A powerful, mineral dry white, in numbered bottles.
- Grand Cru Frankstein: a grand cru Pinot Gris from the granite slopes of Dambach-la-Ville, 4 km from Scherwiller. Round, smoky and mineral, it can be kept for up to 6 years.
- Riesling Vendanges Tardives: a sweet wine from overripe grapes, with bergamot and candied apricots, which can be kept for up to 12 years. The ideal gift for someone who likes to age their bottles.
