The Estate
Passionate Independent Winemakers, our estate has been established in Scherwiller, in the heart of the Alsatian vineyard, since 1958 and passed down from father to son in the purest tradition.
Ideally located on the Wine Route, at the foot of Ortenbourg Castle (12th century) and Haut Koenigsbourg, the soil of our estate is gravelly or granitic.
We practice sustainable viticulture to maintain and enhance this heritage with the aim of offering it to future generations.
We work happily and simply to create unique wines from our own vineyard.
Discover our traditional range of varietal wines.
Savor the fruit of our granitic soil, the RITTERSBERG, and the SCHERWILLER appellation from the early gravelly soil.
Sparkle with joy with our Crémants d’Alsace. Let yourself be captivated by the seductive charm of our Vendanges Tardives, our great sweet wines.
Our family-run, artisanal, and exclusive production amounts to several tens of thousands of bottles with an authentic and distinctive character.
The History of Domaine Ruhlmann
Originally a lumberjack, Gilbert RUHLMANN worked on the family farm where his father already made wine.
In 1958, the majority of his production was already sold in bottles.
In 1962, he settled in Scherwiller after his marriage. At that time, only 3 grape varieties were cultivated on their small farm.
In the 70s, these lovers of the land specialized in viticulture and built the current cellar.
In the 80s, the 7 Alsatian grape varieties were cultivated on the estate, and in 1984, the first Crémant d’Alsace vintage was produced.
During the 90s, the vineyard expanded.
The eldest son, Guy, completed his higher education in oenology and took over the estate.
In 2000, Pascal, his brother, also joined after his viticulture studies.
The acquisition of new plots in Rittersberg and Ortenberg allowed for the development of the range of terroir wines.
In 2014, our passion remains undiminished, and the estate is TERRA VITIS certified.
